For as long as he can remember, Ramir Mosqueda had dreams of becoming a black belt. At age 9 his mother agreed to sign him up for karate lessons but the classes were discouraging and Ramir made a decision to stop and place his dream on hold. Three years later Ramir moved to San Jose, CA and after the recommendation of a childhood friend he was persuaded to try out a class with Jim Buhisan. Remembering the atmosphere of the last training facility Ramir was pleasantly surprised with the supportive and family atmosphere Jim Buhisan created at his martial arts school. This was the summer of 1984 and Ramir has been a part of Buhisan’s USA Martial Arts ever since.
Since earning his black belt in 1989, Ramir continued to earn many awards and accolades. After earning his black belt he set a goal to try out the Sport Karate Tournament arena. He competed in the national and international level for about 6 years and within that time period he was able to win 4 World titles and 1 Overall World title during his competitive career. Due to his competition accomplishment Ramir has been featured in some of the most prestigious martial arts magazine such as Black Belt, Karate/Kung Fu Illustrated and Sport Karate International. Outside of competition Ramir also continued to train with Jim Buhisan and holds the rank of 6th degree black belt under Buhisan’s USA Martial Arts and is currently training for his 7th degree black belt. Ramir has also explored and attained rank in other forms of martial arts such as Wushu, Okinawa Weaponry, Chinese Kenpo, Jissen Kai Aiki Jiu Jujutsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
In 2007, Ramir Mosqueda became Jim Buhisan’s business partner at Buhisan’s USA Martial Arts. He currently holds the position of lead instructor and runs day-to-day operations at the Buhisan’s USA Martial Arts headquarter school. Ramir is very proud of all of his accolades but according to him, his greatest accomplishments are not the world titles or his belt ranks but the success of each and every one of his students attaining goals that they did not believe they could ever achieve. To make sure his students receive the best martial arts instructions possible Ramir has gone on to study everything and anything he believes would benefit his students. This ongoing study ranges from attaining a Masters degree in Special Education to partnering up and networking with some the of the leading martial arts professional in the country who place a high focus and value on life skills education in developing student success. Ramir is passionate about teaching life skills education such as respect, focus and perseverance because he believes in order to achieve any success in life it all begins with the character. This is a lesson he learned when he took his first step onto Jim Buhisan’s training floor in 1984 and this is a tradition Ramir Mosqueda would like to continue with the next generation of Buhisan’s USA Martial Arts students.
